Efficacy of Dietary Nano-quercetin on Growth, Innate Immune Responses, and Resistance of Nile Tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus against Streptococcus agalactiae Infection
Abstract
Developed Nano-Quercetin by dissolving quercetin with ethanol (1:1). Mixed with Pluronic F-127 solution (DI water:Pluronic F-127, 1:1) ratio 1:3 shake and drop 20 μL Tween 80. Then Freeze-dry solution and analyzed with Malvern. Nano-Quercetin diameter 12.27±4.45 nm test efficacy of dietary on growth, immune response and resistance of Nile tilapia against S. agalactiae was investigated. Fish (40±10 grams, 20 fish/m3) were divided into 4 groups before being fed for 8 weeks with 0 (Control), 25, 50 and 75 mg of Nano-Quercetin. Fish were fed experimental diets at a rate of 4 body wight/day. The results showed that growth parameter weight gain, average daily gain, feed intake, FCR and survival rate were not significantly different (P>0.05). The serum lysozyme activities of tilapia fed with 25, 50 and 75 mg of Nano-Quercetin enhanced significantly (P<0.05) when compared with control after the 4th to 8th week of the experiment. Tilapia fed with 50 mg of Nano-Quercetin showed a highly significant difference (P<0.05) in phagocytosis activity. While the respiratory burst activity was not significantly different (P>0.05). After challenge with S. agalactiae, the survival rates were in groups fed with 75 (93.33%), 50 (90%) and 25 (80%) mg Nano-Quercetin, respectively. Results obtained in this study showed that a Nano-Quercetin supplementary diet could not increase growth performances but it could improve immune response against S. agalactiae.
